Equine Massage Preparation
Decide on a place in your barn where your horse would be most comfortable, a quiet spot with little distractions. Please do not book an appointment around feeding time as the horse will be distracted.
Please have your horse dry and remove caked mud. If you are unable to attend and grooming is needed, a charge of $10.00 will be added to the session.
During the massage, the horse will be haltered
and hand held by you or loosely tied during the
treatment. I use compression and direct
pressure to spread the fibers of the muscles,
freeing restriction and adhesions. This allows
the blood supply to flow more easily,
carrying oxygen and other nutrients to the
muscles. Equine sports massage is done as a
full body massage, by hand, so I can feel the
muscle tension and adhesions on the horse.
The session will start with an assessment of
the horse and hearing your reason for your
call. At the start, work will be very gentle,
as the horse should see the massage as a
positive, enjoyable experience. Then follows
a very thorough check of the horse’s muscles
and stress points where pain is often present.
Where the muscles are tight and stiff, a series
of techniques will be used to soften them and
get the muscles to release.
